HELLO KITTY MADNESS PEOPLE!

Hi all! As my first blog, I would like to talk about the whole Hello Kitty craze that is taking over Singapore. Personally, I'm not a Hello Kitty fan so this may or may not sound biased based on the reader. So here I go!

Well I guess I was not surprised that everyone is so hyped up on the Hello Kitty dolls sold at McDonalds, it seems that whenever there is something that is "while stocks last" we Singaporeans tell ourselves that we must have one. I am guilty of this to a certain extent. They get sold out just as soon as a new one is released! I must say that these dolls have more impact then all the glass cups the McDonalds have been giving out every now and then. People have to pay $4.99 (correct me if I'm wrong) for a Hello Kitty doll, and I guess things have escalated very quickly that coupons have been issued to customers queuing for the sole purpose to to get the dolls. I must say I've never heard/seen so many people queuing outside McDonalds just to get a doll rather then food.

Now guess what happens? (I'm sure many of us have seen this on STOMP) Singaporeans getting angry and even getting really unreasonable just cos they can't get their Hello Kitty dolls. Like seriously creating a scene just because you can't get a doll. Wow. Just wow. I don't mean to be mean or anything but, would you die if you don't own one of these dolls? Would your whole life lose meaning if you didn't own one? Would you be shunned by society if you didn't own one? NO. A simple no is the only thing I can think of. It is normal to be upset when we don't get what we want, but it's the end of your life. As many people would probably say, suck it up and move on.

I guess to sum things up and to end this entry, it's really intriguing and amusing how we Singaporeans go crazy over such a simple thing as a Hello Kitty doll, and many other things that even I am guilty of.

That's all from me in my first entry, my next entry would be on bullying, something I'm very familiar with. So here's a quote from a song I love to listen to "take a chill pill and ease off the throttle", or in other words, RELAX LA!
